INTERVIEW

When did you first discover your passion for music, walker?

W: I remember early on in my youth, a few older cousins of mine were playing guitar and starting to get into music. As a little kid, I was mesmerized. The first two tracks I ever remember really having a lasting impact on me were “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden and “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams. What can I say, it was the 90’s! The passion was ignited and it led me to discover more. My mother further fed that appetite for music by introducing me to a bunch of bands and genres, from new romantic, to punk, and everything in between.

What three words would you say best summarize your music?

W: Dark, Folk, Surprising.

So tell me about your latest song releases. What was the inspiration for you to write them?

W: My upcoming release is “The Importance Of Being Idle”, coming out on September 12th, 2021, and it is a collaboration with producer Malleus Incus Stapes. This track came about due to us both being fans of the original song, so we decided to embark on covering it. In my opinion, the song had such a great flow about it. Malleus and I decided to create a little bit more of a folksy vibe through the addition of a Rhodes Piano, some slide guitar and by slowing down the tempo. We felt the final result really encapsulated the genius of the original tune, while also adding our own personalities. I guess the inspiration came from the song being so musically pivotal in my life.

How do you want your music to help other people?

W: I hope that people find the same solitude, peace, and resolve that I find when I listen to music.

Who would you say are your first musical influences?

W: Chris Cornell, Nirvana, Neil Young, and Bryan Adams. They have just stuck with me in my head all of these years.

what is your songwriting process?

W: This is a tough one.. So every time when I’m working on a song, I try different approaches. The method I use right now is to dive into my brain and recall past experiences or specific scenarios and write about those. Then we refine with some changes to the words. From there, we add on drums and melody… that to me, is the hard part. Thinking about and playing with melodies is a long process for me, however it always seems to provide its own direction and new ideas are born the more I play around.

What would your idyllic life as an artist look like?

W: I have a great life right now. I have the chance to write and create with other amazing musicians. I travel, and gain new inspiration every day. If one person or a 100 people listen to the music I create and enjoy it, or take something away from it, then I am happy.
