Hello, Nikkole! We’d love to know – how would you describe your music in three words?
Nikkole: Oh, that’s a tough one… but I would say – Unique, Free, and Universal.
Tell me about your latest album titled “Vulnerable” – what is something very special about it?
Nikkole: My latest album, “Vulnerable” is dearest to my heart out of all of my projects to date. Working with such an incredible Producer, Leon Sylvers III, on this outing really strengthened my story telling with realness from my own experiences. He helped me reach other vibes in my voice that I always wanted to share on recordings. This enabled me to bring emotions out that normally only are shown in intimate situations.
You have so many great songs released on Spotify – what is your favorite song you’ve written or recorded to date?
Nikkole: Thank you, you’ve got great questions! I’d have to say out of all 5 of my albums released. My most favorite song is “Lovin’ Me, Leavin’ Me” from my current album “Vulnerable”.
You’ve achieved enormous success thus far, including being a Billboard chart-topper – which is incredibly impressive. What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to up-and-coming independent artists who are striving to make a name for themselves in the music industry?
Nikkole: The biggest piece of advice I would like to share with up and coming artists is to NEVER let anyone detour you from your dreams. Get focused, practice every day and do YOU – be original. No one can do you better than yourself! Stay humble and surround yourself by like minded individuals.
Are there any notable artists that have greatly influenced your sound and musical style?
Nikkole: I grew up with all genres of music being playing in my household, but I gravitated toward Soul and R&B artists. There are so many amazing artists that have touched my inner being. But I would say: Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Teena Marie, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, and Phyllis Hyman are the standouts.
Many artists say that their art helps them heal past injuries.. how has creating music helped you?
Nikkole: Creating is cathartic for me, it’s a form of release. Being able to put to pen and paper your experiences good and bad are a form of cleansing. It also connects the listeners to you and their familiarities being able to show your vulnerability.
What is the next “big thing” the world can expect from you?
Nikkole: The next big thing in the works for me is a world tour! I’m excited to bring the “Vulnerable” Tour to life!
