“It’s okay to let things go in order to be true to yourself.” – DÉTA
INTERVIEW
Hello, DÉTA! Thank you very much for joining us today. First things first, could you tell me how you discovered your passion for music?
DÉTA: I guess music was always part of my life – but I discovered my real passion when I was an overwhelmed and rebellious teenager. I wanted the world to understand me and music was my translator.
You have a very unique artist name, by the way! How did you come up with it?
DÉTA: It was at my third year at university. I was a little high on LSD and needed a stage name for an upcoming gig. So I scribbled a few words on a piece of paper until I got stuck on the word “detail.” It made total sense. I mean… I think being an artist is about sharing emotion and connecting. The more detail I give to another person, the deeper the connection can grow. So that night, the word “detail” became my artist name, DÉTA.
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… in what ways has music helped you?
DÉTA: To communicate. I’m really bad at sharing my thoughts and feelings (ask my girlfriend. haha) and music is my way to cope with intense times. Growing up, I was a strange kid. I got bullied in school and always felt socially awkward – music was sort of an escape. So instead of talking about my struggles, I wrote my first songs.
Tell me a little about your upcoming single titled, “I Don’t Care (If You Don’t Care)”.. what is something very special about it?
DÉTA: “I Don’t Care (If You Don’t Care)” is all about the process of inner revolution. Standing up for yourself and finding the people in life who support you to become the best and most honest version of oneself. “I Don’t Care (If You Don’t Care)” reflects the strength, but also the fragility of starting over and the need for someone to tell you, “It’s okay to let things go in order to be true to yourself.”.
What is your interpretation of being an artist? What does it mean to you?
DÉTA: To create!
