INTERVIEW
Hello, Emma! Thank you for joining us today. We’d love to know, when did you first discover your passion for music?
Emma: Around four years old, I remember my first attempts in singing along to songs and hitting notes! I remember listening to Beyoncé and Celine Dion as a little kid. My whole childhood, I was very curious about vocals and by the time there was a music teacher in the picture, I had already built my own practice routine without noticing! As a teenager, that was when the realization came that the music world fits me and is my calling. Since being in it was the only time I truly felt at ease, “Ok this is my space now, too. I can take space”.
Tell me about your recently released single “Gravity”.. what was the inspiration behind writing it?
Emma: “Gravity”, to me, is all about the reality check that comes when we need it the most. It came when Coronavirus came, in a way, because everyone was forced to think about themselves, their lives, where all this is going. Like a cycle, or a phenomenon, things knock at our door to keep us grounded, humble. It is these thoughts that inspired me. From then on, the process of singing it and putting it down on paper was very instinctive. I like it a lot when that happens, the ‘a-ha’ moment. Sometimes the voice does the work by itself!
Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal injuries… in what ways has music helped you?
Emma: One word that comes to mind: Acceptance. Being born with a sensitive and receptive mind is a big responsibility and sometimes it is not honored in the way you would expect. There is a lot of miscommunication between creative children and the rest of their peers, understanding can be quite low… So the way to express, celebrate and accept myself and what comes with it, was and is through music, creating, manifesting. That’s in my adulthood, as well.
What is the next “big thing” the world can expect from you in the near future?
Emma: Performing, releasing music (such as my new singles, “Ghost” and “Gravity”). In February, I am releasing my full EP which is very exciting- there will be a release concert of it in the Netherlands as well! More collaborations with different artists as well as videographers. Looking forward to expand and inspire, as well as get inspired from awesome artists around me.
