“I want my music to take listeners on a journey that hopefully helps them grow, cheers them up on a bad day, or has a positive impact on their lives.”

INTERVIEW

When did you first discover your passion for music, Ariel?

A: I was really young! I come from a musical family and was always surrounded by music growing up. My dad is a classically trained pianist and both of my grandfathers were musicians so I grew up constantly listening to music. I started singing when I was six in front of audiences and from that point on I always knew I wanted to perform! In fact, at the start of the music video for my latest release, “Somebody Loves You,” I featured a video of me singing at a local park when I was a little girl and I ended it singing in a big stadium in Miami. I also included my dad on the piano in that video and various clips of us together. That song and video meant a lot to me and it brought a lot of things full circle.

What three words would you say best summarize your music?

A: My new music coming out is tropical, heartfelt, and Spanglish!

So tell me about your latest song release. What was the inspiration for you to write them?

A: The inspiration behind my latest music release, “Somebody Loves You,” was the start of the pandemic and what everyone was going through around the world. I wanted the song to be a way to inspire people and give them hope during especially difficult times. Through that release, I partnered with the United Way of Miami-Dade to raise money for their Miami Pandemic Response Fund and it was really rewarding to be able to give back to the community and make a difference in people’s lives. I wanted my song to remind listeners that they are never alone and that no matter what they’re going through, “Somebody Loves You”.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves.. in what ways has music helped you?

A: Music has helped me grow into the person that I am today. It has also helped define and give meaning to my life. Music has guided me through many life events – good and bad, and has especially helped me find who I am. Whether it’s listening to music or writing music, it has always been a way for me to express what I’m going through during specific moments in my life. Music is a language that connects people of all different backgrounds and cultures. I think that it is such a beautiful thing when people come together and can relate to one another through a common love for something.

How do you want your music to help other people?

A: I want my music to take listeners on a journey that hopefully helps them grow, cheers them up on a bad day, or has a positive impact on their lives.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

A: Ricky Martin. Celine Dion. Gloria Estefan. Shakira. Being a Miami native, I was especially influenced by the Latin music scene. You can’t beat Latin rhythms!

What is your songwriting process?

A: When I write a song, I have a few different approaches. Sometimes I begin with a general idea of what I want the song to be about. Sometimes I just write how I feel and turn it into a song, and sometimes I start with the music or a beat and write the lyrics and melody to the music. It’s not always the same. But many times it depends on my overall vision from the beginning. With my EP that’s coming out, I made sure to have a very strong vision to start and wrote everything with that vision in mind.

what would you say is your favorite song that you’ve written or recorded to date?

A: My favorite song is actually one I’ll be releasing off of my new EP and it’s called “Atrapada”. For this track, I collaborated with Latin Grammy winning producers Jorge Luis Piloto and Tony Succar. It’s my first original salsa song and it will make you want to dance. I can’t wait to share it with the world! Make sure to follow me on social media to stay in the loop of what’s to come!
