ABOUT

Brendan DiStefano, aka QUIETLOVE, quickly found a passion for music at a young age. By middle school, composing, recording, and producing songs by himself became therapeutic. DiStefano’s persistence caught the attention of Derrick Ross and Gary Slaight, President/CEO of acclaimed music company Slaight Music, signing his first publishing agreement at 17.

Performing at venues of all sizes throughout North America with popular acts such as Tyler Shaw, Virginia to Vegas, Honors (ex-Down With Webster), Tom Cochrane, Tokyo Police Club, The Strumbellas, Maestro Fresh Wes, Neon Dreams, Ryan Beatty, and many more. Brendan now resides in Toronto and fronts the indie-pop trio, Navigate the Sky, aspiring to collaborate with songwriters abroad and take on more roles in production, co-writing, and film score composition.

“Everything I write comes from my heart.”

INTERVIEW

When did you first discover your passion for music, QUIETLOVE?

Q: When I was super young… like three or four years-old. My older brother had a drum set and I would bang on pots and pans while he was practicing. Something just clicked. That led to bedroom concerts for my parents, and eventually the real thing!

What three words would you say best summarize your music?

Q: From the heart. Everything I write comes from my heart.

So tell me about your latest song release “Follow”. What was the inspiration for you to write it?

Q: I wanted to write about the duality of having mixed feelings, and trying to navigate the murky waters of a new relationship when both you and the other person want different outcomes.

Most artists say that through their art they learn more about themselves, heal their injuries… in what ways has music helped you?

Q: Music has always been a companion to me. It gets me through the good and bad times, ten fold. Writing and creating is so therapeutic for me.

How do you want your music to help other people?

Q: In the same way it’s helped me, to be honest. I want people to know that they’re not alone. Someone out there feels exactly the way you do… find comfort in knowing that.

What is your songwriting process?

Q: I usually start with a chord progression or beat, and record a rough melody on top. Basically gibberish. Then from there, I’ll carve out lyrics from the gibberish and create a song. Sometimes the melody comes first. It all depends!

Who are the first musical artists that inspired you?

Q: I remember I first idolized Backstreet Boys as a kid. I wanted to be Nick Carter so bad! Later, that turned into pop-punk bands like Sum 41 and Simple Plan. I used to watch their tour DVD’s and dream of being in their shoes one day.

What would your idyllic life as an artist look like?

Q: Living comfortably off of my art alone is my true life goal. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake.
